Sportsmanship and the Dreaded “Good Game”

Sportsmanship and the Dreaded “Good Game”

Everyone knows the right thing to say when they lose in a game or sport. To demonstrate good sportsmanship, you say, “Good game” and move on. This shows respect to the winner and that you’re not being a sore loser. However, there is another side to this. What if you won the game or sport? Do you still say, “Good game?”

Sportsmanship From A Personal Angle

As a poker player, I had never thought about this until recently. I usually play tournaments, which means even if you cash, you’re usually losing money. Therefore, I’m usually saying, “Good game” and leaving. When I actually win a tournament, I also say, “Good game,” but now that I think more about it, I’m not sure if that’s the correct thing to do. Would I want the winner of a heads-up poker match saying, “Good game” to me? I guess it wouldn’t bother me, but that might not be the case for everyone.

Looking At The NFL

I’m also an avid NFL fan. When I’m not playing poker and the NFL is in-season, I’m all over it. I have bought NFL vacation packages in the past, which has been one of the best decisions of my life. Being able to meet some of the players was neat, and they were all respectful, but the next time I look into NFL football vacation packages, I’m going to make a mental note to ask one of the players about this topic.

I’m going to ask them if the winners say, “Good game” to the losers after a game. Or do they just shake hands without saying anything? When I look back on all the sports and poker I’ve played throughout my life, I just now realized that most people don’t say, “Good game” after they win. They just shake hands quietly. This is odd to me. Maybe it’s a personal preference, but I feel more comfortable and respectful when I say, “Good game” whether I win or lose.

America’s Team

I’m currently considering Dallas Cowboys travel packages because that way I can watch the Cowboys play and have easy access to the WinStar poker room, and possibly Choctaw Durant as well, which is in Oklahoma but only about one hour away. If I take this trip, which I probably will, I’m going to pay attention to the NFL players and poker players to see what they do and what they say after a win.

NFL Travel Packages

I might end up doing this on all NFL game packages I purchase. And if I can be fortunate enough to make some good money in poker tournaments then I will look into Super Bowl travel packages. I still haven’t been to a Super Bowl despite my great love for the NFL. For now, it’s just NFL football vacation packages until I win a big poker tournament, but that’s good enough for me. It allows me to watch my favorite game to watch and play my favorite game I love to play.
